Diary of a Wine Guy.
The Earls "Wine Guy", as he is fondly known, holds the most exciting job imaginable. While traveling the world over tasting and buying wine for Earls from some of the most famous wineries and celebrities, he will share his exciting (and behind the scenes) stories and unbelievable experiences while pursuing the best wine values on the planet. Trinchero Family Estates - The Three Theives (www1.threethieveswinery.com)
In May I travelled to California to visit the Trinchero Family Estates Wine Group, the owners of many reputable and long standing wine brands. As expected they were excellent hosts, and provided excitment and learning all in one package. From the "Tongue Fu" exercise of identifying flaws in a wine to a "roulette" wheel of aromas and flavours, they were tops at teaching through creativity.
However, as always, there was one standout experience, and this time it was their winery, "Three Thieves" that blew me away. This winery is run by three long standing wine gurus named after Robinhood and his Merry Men because they "steal" top quality juice at great prices and reblend it into premium wine sold at affordable prices. We have recently highlighted one of their labels, "The Show", on the wine club site.
