Diary of a Wine Guy.
The Earls "Wine Guy", as he is fondly known, holds the most exciting job imaginable. While traveling the world over tasting and buying wine for Earls from some of the most famous wineries and celebrities, he will share his exciting (and behind the scenes) stories and unbelievable experiences while pursuing the best wine values on the planet. If you were ever going to sneak a peak at someone's diary, this is it.
Annual Tasting and Judging for Wine List Review
It is my favourite time of year again.....conducting the tasting and judging for potential new wines for our list. And with 250+ exciting and unique wines submitted, I know it won't disappoint.
Sound daunting? Not at all! In fact it is one of the most interesting and challenging experiences I have with wine because all wines are tasted and judged blind. This process not only tests the reliability of my pallet, but also ensures that my opinion on a wine is not "wooed" by brand or price point.
The wine is judged using a unique system that rates each wine, on a scale of 1 to 100, in 5 different categories. These scores are then put together to create an overall average score for the wine. Next all judges scores are put together to create a total overall score, as well as a spread (It is not unusual for all judges to only be 1 or 2 points apart on their score).
